She watched him take a long drag of the cigarette, the butt of it lighting up in a deep red glow.

The corridors were dark, only lit by the fire from who knows how many halls away, and heavy rain was the only sound able to be heard as the night became deathly silent. Cornelius stayed crouched in the same empty room he had taken shelter in before everything had gone to shit.
The blood on his clothes had dried into a dark copper stain but anxiety and fear kept its hold on him as he listened for anything, anyone, any sign that he wasn't alone.
